Plumber in Goldsmith

Goldsmith at a glance

Goldsmith is a small city in northwestern Ector County, with 236 people at the 2020 census. It covers about 0.3 square miles along State Highway 158, roughly 20 miles northwest of Odessa.

What that means for your plumbing

With 128 housing units, almost a quarter of them vacant at the last count, many homes here sit empty for stretches. Empty houses are where freeze damage and slow leaks do the most harm because nobody sees them. Shut the water off at the main and drain the lines before leaving a house empty in winter. See frozen pipe repair.

Distance matters

Goldsmith is a long drive from most plumbing shops. Keeping a few basics on hand, such as a spare washing machine hose, a shut-off key for the meter and a plunger, can stop a small problem becoming a big one while you wait.

A rural city on the plains

Goldsmith is entirely rural; the census counted none of its residents as living in an urban area. The surrounding land is open West Texas plains dotted with oilfield leases. Homes here range from older houses to manufactured homes, and many have plumbing exposed to wind and cold underneath or in outbuildings. Water heaters in outdoor closets lose pilots on windy days, and sediment builds up in tanks over time. If the hot water quits, check the pilot first and then read about water heater repair.
